(DOW JONES) DJN: WSJ(5/24): Apple, Kodak In Pact On Software License DJN: WSJ(5/24): Apple, Kodak In Pact On Software License By Pui-Wing Tam Staff Reporter Of The Wall Street Journal Apple Computer Inc. said it will license its QuickTime multimedia and video streaming software to Eastman Kodak Co., scoring a win over similar technology from competitors such as Microsoft Corp. and RealNetworks Inc. The agreement could extend the reach of QuickTime, which has been available primarily through desktop and laptop computers. Kodak, of Rochester, N.Y., said it will use the technology for future digital cameras and will allow the company to make models that let users easily create video clips. QuickTime, though developed originally for Apple's Macintosh computers, also works with Microsoft's Windows operating system. In a statement, Eastman Kodak Senior Vice President Willy Shih called the ability to use multimedia files in both formats was an "important consideration" in choosing Apple's technology. Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs said, "We think this is a pretty big deal, and there will be more to follow. We've been working with Kodak a while on digital cameras." Philip Schiller, vice president of world-wide product marketing for Apple, Cupertino, Calif., declined to disclose financial terms of the agreement.
