"at some point the Cuban people have to claim their rights, stand up, and say ENOUGH!"
Amen ... they will ... and fairly soon imho ... but i think it is important that they not be manipulated from outside ... they'll be in a position to use some help, but good neighbours will offer that help without expecting immediate result to their self-interest.
"I think Juan Miguel is a good example of how Castro preserves himself by jailing/killing his opponents and dispiriting the general population."
I don't know what you mean by this. Personally i don't know what to make of Juan Miguel ... but it's a big world, lots of room for all ... and - he is the father of Eli n, and that's that.
In re your last paragraph - i don't know that border area well, from either side ... don't even know well any chicanos in recent years ... my M‚xico is that of the deep south, mango country, 17th parallel, Chiapas ... we think people from Villahermosa are a bit weird and chilangos [residents of el DF] even more so, therefore it follows that the more north one goes, the weirder they get ... so, we don't go -g-
I can understand how you can feel that your country is just the bestest place in the whole wide world, because i have two countries and feel that way about both. Just a guess, but i bet the odd cubano feels that way about his. |
