Curiously, the market top preceeded the crash of 1929 and 1987 by 56 days in both instances. Today is the Dow's 87th day after its current peak and the 52nd day after NASDAQ's peak. Unless both markets peak the same day sometime in the future, it won't happen again, but the notion would certainly settle a lot of current arguments. Rather than ascribe a chief reason that a market crashes, analysts say that after a certain period, the average investor realizes that he/she's been 'stood up' and realizes that higher highs are not going to show up.
