OPEC Loan for Sudan's Power Stations
KHARTOUM, Sudan (PANA) (Panafrican News Agency, May 23, 2000) - The OPEC Fund for International Development has offered Sudan a loan of 10 million US dollars for the rehabilitation of some of the country's electric power stations.
The government said the loan would be used for the rehabilitation of Khartoum and Ezairgab power stations in the state of Khartoum.
The gas power station at Khashm el Girba, in eastern Sudan, as well as the cooling system of the Rosairis power station in central Sudan will also benefit from the loan.
The loan is repayable in 12 years after a grace period of five years, according to a statement released at the end of a cabinet meeting in Khartoum Sunday. ________________________________________________
Prospecting for Gold Begins Soon in Northern Sudan
(May 23, 2000), Panafrican New - KHARTOUM, Sudan (PANA)- Rida Mining Company, a Sudanese-Saudi business has won a contract to prospect for gold in Berber area, some 40 km North of Khartoum.
The director of the Geological Research Corporation, Omar Mohammed Khair, said the company considers the area promising of gold.
"The area's geological structure is excellent and promises of the existence of a gold reserve," he added.
The Rida concession area lies west of the town of Berber and covers an area of 16,000 km.
The French Cominer signed a contract early 2000 with Sudan to prospect for gold in the nearby Wadi el Singair valley that attracted thousands of traditional gold miners in 1998 following the discovery of gold in the area. |
