REDMOND, Wash., May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- SAFLINK Corporation, (Nasdaq: ESAF - news), a leading global biometric software provider, announced today that it has been selected to supply biometric technology for three of the five contracts awarded by the U.S. General Services Administration for its government-wide Smart Access Common ID program. SAFLINK will participate as a first tier subcontractor to KPMG Consulting LLC of McLean, VA and as a second tier subcontractor to PRC, Inc. of Reston, VA and Logicon, Inc. of Falls Church, VA.

The Smart Access Common ID program provides smart card technology for a wide range of access and identification applications. Included in the program is the use of biometric technology to enable extra security for selected applications that will use smart cards, including such applications as computer network access and electronic commerce. Biometric solutions that will be used in the program must be compliant with the BioAPI standard recently released by the BioAPI Consortium. SAFLINK will supply its SAF(TM) family of multi-biometric software solutions that function in combination with a range of biometric technologies including fingerprint, facial recognition, voice print and iris recognition.

``This program represents a significant opportunity for SAFLINK and we are very pleased that so many of the winning bidders on this important federal program specified SAF multi-biometric solutions in their proposals,'' said Jeffrey P. Anthony, Chief Executive Officer of SAFLINK Corporation. ``I believe that our past work with the Department of Defense on the development of biometric industry standards and our successes with other government projects, like the recently announced SAFtyLock(TM) program for the U.S. Strategic Command, played an important role in their selection of SAFLINK as their biometric solutions supplier.''

The Smart Access Common ID program is a cooperative effort under GSA's leadership with a steering committee composed of representatives from the federal civilian, defense and intelligence communities. All GSA regional offices and other federal agencies will be able to use the contracts. The five contract awards announced by GSA on May 19, 2000 have a combined maximum value of $1.5 billion over 10 years.
