hi dennis,
well, after giving dylan's 'all american boy' a good listen, it's quite clear to me that there's no way i get all those lyrics. as is the case with a lot of bob's basement tape stuff, he's full-on ad libbing. some of the words are unintelligible (surprise!) and others are obviously inserted for their rhyming effect.
after reading zak's lyrics post, i now know what dylan is parodying. though he veers off into some, uh, unusual areas... like when the all american boy's manager shows up and takes him out to the barn, then invites him into the house to meet his wife. if you've ever listened to bob's 'tiny montgomery' ("now he's king of the drunks and he squeezes, too, watch out, lester, take it, lou") or his 'yea! heavy and a bottle of bread' ("slap that drummer with a pie that smells, take me down to california, baby"), then you have an idea of the mindset dylan was in when he did his version of 'all american boy'.
it's a rambling song replete with gaping chuck holes that the singer fills haphazardly with nonsense and sharp satire, humor and truth, and liberal doses of WTF? !
i wish everyone could hear it. but i don't see how that's possible.
:)
