So as far as China is concerned, Son should buy a nice CD?<G> As I recall, Yahoo had a stash of cash on hand (partly from Softbank) and they invested the money in a conservative place where the interest became a large part of their profitability. Or something like that.

One thing the meltdown in stock prices has accomplished is to thin out the field so there is less frenetic buying of anything in the internet space and Softbank can become more selective in their investing. If you have a small promising internet start up company, who would you prefer to come knocking at your door with a bag of cash? Son and Softbank have the edge in selecting where to invest their VC monies. For a Japanese Company, the association with Yahoo Japan and Etrade Japan should look very attractive. I still like Softbank's long term prospects, but our time frame has to be extended out in time. It will probably be years before we see new highs and we may not have seen the low for the year yet.
