I remember how the NYTimes lamented how few Americans were using the checkoff so they backed the Dem move in the Dem controlled-Congress to avoid popular rejection by raising the value of the checkoff to $3 from $1.

Next thing they will back is eliminating the checkoff and just giving the pols whatever they want. Make no mistake, this will not deter them from their ultimate goal of complete public financing of election campaigns.
