The bear market will be ended not by capitulative selling, but by capitulative buying Excellent thought!! That looks to be the way it may unfold. History does not necessarily repeat. Maybe just like some of those technical analysts who waited and waited to get "retests" on the averages back in 1998. Just did not happen! These days I got a feeling a lot of the retail crowd has got into the short selling game as well OR at least are holding cash. Once that cash comes in, it becomes a zero sum effect of their actions taken in isolation (since they got out). Of course lots of these will cause the capitulative buying.
