I see LOTS of EV1s here in the Bay Area. They're popular here.
But they are miserly with interior space. They're two-seaters only.
And the 125 mile range is a bit of an optimistic estimate. It presupposes slowish steady progress on clean flat roads, like I-95 back east. I'd like to see how many miles the car will go in the Real World of San Francisco: many steep hills, lots of traffic devices, heavy surge-and-wait traffic. My old Honda Civic VX would do 400 miles of taht stuff - well, before they destructively reformulated the gasoline.

One of the HUGE drawbacks of the EV1 is that you can't OWN one. Lease program only. Hmph. And the lease is as expensive as for a BMW. That is a headscratcher, and imo it makes the vehicle a thing of the margins.

I would not buy an alternative fuel vehicle until they make one that fits me, my spouse and both our kids, complete with "stuff". A minivan is optimal, but a Taurus wagon is the minimal acceptable size. And I would really require it to be able to make the San Jose to Reno run without refueling or recharging.
The Honda Insight is a nice step in the right direction, but now they need to apply that technology to the Odyssey. The car companies "cheat" by making their EVs into sleek little 2+2 coupes. Let's see a hybrid Suburban. Yeah.
