Perhaps I should put it this way: I have no reason to prefer sensory data and the inferences that can be drawn therefrom......Indeed, if my interior sense is wholly unreliable, than I can never infer anything, since I must be capable of recognizing the processes of reasoning, and the characteristics of concluding. Similarly, without the ability to synthesize impressions that are just past with current sensations, I would not have experience to infer from, but fleeting sensations. Indeed, without the ability to remember, I could not make any generalizations through which I might reason. If anything, my interior sense of myself is privileged over mere sensory input.......
