That depends what part of the self you think is more reliable- because the self seems to me to be a thing of many parts. For example the self has bursts of emotion- I think you can always be fairly sure that you are feeling what you think you are feeling- anger, happiness, etc- of course you can CHANGE them by thinking about them- but they are immediate manifestations of the self (or so it seems to me). But when you get to thoughts the self has about itself, or about other things- I'm not sure why those things would be privileged, unless it's because one believes they ought to be privileged.
