Taiwan's Nan Ya to Invest US$800M to Boost Production of Low-Cost DRAMs
May 24, 2000 (TOKYO) -- Taiwan's Nanya Technology Corp. plans to invest more than US$800 million in the Fab 2 plant in Taiwan's Linkou area to produce 200mm wafers and increase production of low-cost DRAMs.

The company is now producing 128Mb DRAMs using the 0.175 micron process technology on the Fab 2's pilot line. In order to fully make use of investment, it will start mass-producing 30,000 wafers per month on a full-scale basis on the line in mid-2000. It plans to market 256Mb DRAMs at the end of 2000.

With increasing DRAM production as its springboard, Nanya aims to rank within the top 10 in the DRAM market in 2000. It intends to continue investing as necessary for the manufacture of state-of-the-art DRAMs with backing from its parent company, Formosa Plastics Group.
