I'll bet you thought I was already gone. But no. Actually, our plane leaves at 6 in the morning, meaning we have to leave here at 4:30 AM. So I'm just staying up all night.
I'm sure you will all hear from Joel next week about what a bad guy I am because I faxed the fax to Susan Stillings. Since I won't be here to give you my side of the story, I thought I'd just tell you all now.
Joel sent me an e-mail asking who the **** I am to betray a confidence. He said that he now sees that I am no better than the rest of you, as he had suspected. Said I had no right to send that fax to the "Iomega hype shop."
I replied that I had thought he didn't want me posting the whole fax and company name here, but didn't mind if I checked it out with Iomega. Many of you may recall that I posted my intention to send the fax to Iomega on Thursday evening. Naturally, when I spoke to Susan Stillings, she wanted to see a copy of the fax, so I sent it to her.
Alas, I'm guessing this means I'll still have plenty of paper in the fax machine when I come back from vacation. If Joel's communiques are indeed golden eggs, then I have evidently killed the goose.
I feel kind of bad about this, since I was the only bull Joel trusted. I will not apologize for my actions, however, as I believed I was acting within the terms of the implicit agreement between myself and Joel.
As I said to Joel in my response to his e-mail, I have a long position in IOM, and I want Iomega to get a fair shake in the market. I believe Iomega has the right to know about it when scurrilous accusations are being made about the company. And further, they have the right to know who is making the accusations.
For the record, I can live with being no better than the rest of you.
