Here in the Bay Area I've seen a fairly extensive ad campaign - pretty nice video design, too - for the EV1. I suspect that GM is marketing the car in a regionally focused manner. My guess is that the Lone Star Republic is not a first-tier target for EV ads.

I don't think the EV1 could be practically lengthened into an honest 4-seater. I did go to a local EV rally and had a long, delightful talk with a lady who operated a converted Dodge Caravan. Vehicle weight was 5500 pounds though. Since she used it for many shortish trips, it was a fit to her needs.

As for hybrid SUVs ... I guess seeing will be believing! lol What the car companies are fielding as regular, gas-run SUVs now (a Honda Cervix? The new BMW X5? Oh, my.) defeats the SUV concept imo. "Car utes". What endears me to the Suburban (previous generation; the jerks sharply restricted mid-bench headroom on the new one) is headroom and legroom in any of the eight seating positions in the rig. Y'see, I'm tall and muy picky. <g>
