Giant silver nugget discovered near Karratha

A giant silver nugget, weighing around 165 kilograms, has been discovered at the Elizabeth Hill mine near Karratha in the Pilbarra.

The specimen is believed to be the largest primary silver mineralisation in Australia.

The chairman of East Coast Minerals, Leslie White, says the find was made 11 days ago at Munni Munni, about 40 kilometres south of Karratha.

Mr White says the specimen has been transported to Perth and is likely to be housed in a museum.
