Korea, China seek ties in mobile telecom Minister of Information and Communication Ahn Byung-yub met with China's Minister of Information Industry Wu Jichuan last Tuesday in Cancun, Mexico, to discuss cooperation in the CDMA (code division multiple access) service, Internet and software sector, the MIC said yesterday. During the meeting, held before the official opening of the fourth APEC Ministerial Meeting on Telecommunications and Information Industry being held May 24-26, Wu noted that CDMA is a very efficient way of migrating to IMT-2000, or third generation mobile telecom service, according to the MIC. In reply to Ahn's request for the Chinese government's active cooperation in allowing Korean companies to participate in China's CDMA projects, Wu replied that the two countries should cooperate closely. The two ministers also agreed on holding ministerial talks June 19 in Beijing to further discuss CDMA deployment, IMT-2000 research and development as well as Internet and software industries. It was also agreed that an information and telecom industry fair be held in Beijing and Shanghai during the ministerial talks.
