You did not beat anyone on the head with Christianity, but most people who were raised in Christian cultures have at some point, often at many points, been beaten on the head with it. It is fairly natural, if not entirely laudable, that in a Christian culture the reaction against exclusivist belief will be primarily directed at Christianity.
