Hilton Hotels: Luxury at Budget Prices

Lodging and entertainment stocks have taken a hit lately. It makes sense. Investors fear that a combination of higher fuel costs and interest rates will cool the economy.
Prior to this year, Americans spent the better part of the 1990s traveling in record numbers, but there is a risk that this trend turn sour. Some analysts have pointed to the overcapacity in lodging and surmised that some operators will get hurt worse than others. But in our opinion, Hilton Hotels (NYSE: HLT - Quotes, News, Boards) is a solid player that is trading at bargain basement prices.

For the record Hilton is still seeing strong demand at hotels in most of its major metropolitan markets including New York, San Francisco and Washington. The company's Chicago hotel bookings had slipped a bit on lower convention demand, but now bookings in the Windy City look to be fairly strong for the remainder of 2000. More...
