QCOM: Carpe, I believe GSM is one of the standards used in Europe. . .I think it is Nokia's domain. . .and I believe Orange and Ericsson use it there. And the Europeans love it. . . . nobody walks/drives around Europe without staying in touch via their cell phone. . .and when they need to buy something while out, they just dial in their authorization. . .even the vending machines submit to their cell phones and cough up the goods. And of course they are connected to the net. . . in ways we have only begun to explore here in the states.

Is GSM better than standard CDMA? Yes, I hear it is. So we are back to the old VHS vs. Beta war. CDMA would be VHS. . .not as good, but widely accepted. And you see how that war turned out. What is widely accepted by consumer is difficult to topple. . . unless the newer technology is compelling. . . .or cheaper.

QCOM has a deal with the 2nd largest telecom in China. . .so CDMA will be there. . . .it just may share space with competing formats. The stock is up sharply in pre-market.

Not sure if that helps any. . . I haven't been to Europe to see compare their formats and techs for myself.. . .but this has been a thorn in QCOM's side for some time.
