Is GSM better than standard CDMA?

Rande, I'll have to differ with you big time on your statement that you hear GSM is better than CDMA. GSM is older than CDMA, not better. As an older and free standard, like TDMA, it became widely used in Europe. Then along came QCOM with CDMA, which is far superior as a secure standard, and is also the reason they have been able to grab market share from the entrenched standards, and also the reason the stock skyrocketed last year. QCOM receives royalty fees for each CDMA phone sold. They got their big break when Vodaphone/Airtouch (the #1 wireless provider in the world) adopted the CDMA format.

As far as China goes, they are very interested in having the most secure format, and that's why China Unicom will more than likely adopt CDMA.

Hope this helps with any decision making. (I rebought QCOM on Tues, in anticipation of China WTO).
