Had a visit to SGI in Mountainview last week. They were going to show lastest in 3D, VOD, latest machines, etc. Here's my impression:

- Nice campus-like atmosphere. They've got 46 or 49 buildings all spread over the place. (Can't some of those buildings be closed in the interests of shareholder value).

- Marketing guys were nice but did not know apps very well.Campus-like attitude and approach. Not very interesting in selling or demonstrating the benefits of their machines.

- Even when they tried for glamour, it failed. Saw some hokey animation room which is better at a video arcade.

- I am a shareholder, in at $ 29, and a little nervous that SGI has not developed the 'Apple' mentality - be 'cool' and people will come. With the right management, I think a more business-like approach could result in significant increase to the bottom-line. For a 'creative' company, their marketing is really lousy - no emotion at all.

- SGI brags that they have the lowest employee turnover rate in Silicon Valley. Except for tech people, maybe they should have more.

- At least I got a free shirt - (I'd rather have the shareprice go up).

Any comments from people who deal directly with SGI salemen would be appreciated.
