Ron Paul, often quoted on this thread, was the Libertarian presidential candidate in 1983. When I heard him speak about the Fed, the dollar, and other subjects relating to the U.S. financial system, I bought gold and stayed out of the stock market for a few years. That was 17 years ago and gold is still "waiting in the wings," only it has lost about $150 in the interim. I still look at gold from time to time, but I don't think I'll ever gain anything from it.
