impristine: "I guess i'm assuming that Funds never use leverage...and never compound returns" That would be HOW the 167% return in 1999 would have been achieved, but it doesn't change the return. $30 to $80 is a 167% if you used no leverage/lots of leverage, no compounding/lots of compounding, etc.
