Oracle buying Baan's CRM unit is the same as raising the white flag for Oracle - at least on the CRM front. They would then be admiting that their multi-million, 600 person effort was a waste of time and money and they don't have anything to offer. And what happens once they buy Baan's CRM product? Worse yet for Oracle. Baan's product has never been a serious competitor, at least that I am know about, and they would still have to integrate the thing into the Oracle product line. That alone will cost them 6-12 months minimum.

And what of Siebel during this time? Building their customer list and value chain. And what about their sales pitch when the Oracle/Baan product is unveiled? Well.. you didn't want to buy it from Baan, why would you want to buy it from Oracle? And it's unproven and tacked onto the Oracle product. Ours is a proven product that has been out on the market now for years... We are the undisputed leader in CRM. Everyone knows and supports our product.

If you were a customer ... would you buy a Baan/Oracle 'product'? Neither would I... Clarify is Siebel's only true competitor in the high end space. If Oracle had bought Clarify we would have had a different situation all together.
