I can appreciate your apprehension as it takes a mind set change. However, it's basically the same as writing PUTs, just follow the rules.

If uncomfortable, could try bear spreads.... they're a lot safer, but with less premium received.

Of course there is always buying PUTs, but that's in the same league as buying CALLs on the upside. McMillan says that "buying options is often regarded as one of the most speculative trading activities." I'm too conservative to suggest this one.

Sitting on your hands during these times also protects capital.
