Malaysia: 12% Rise in Power Consumption in 2000

KUALA LUMPUR, May 10 Asia Pulse - Utility giant Tenaga Nasional Bhd (KLSE: TENA) has estimated a 12-percent growth in power consumption this year due to the significant surge in demand after having bottomed out in late 1998.

Its executive chairman and president, Dr Ahmad Tajuddin Ali, said TNB recorded a peak in power consumption of 9,445 megawatts and the highest daily consumption of 190 gigawatts yesterday versus 8,000 megawatts and 150 gigawatts at end-1998 respectively.
