Lather, Not trying to be argumentative with you, (I admit that attitude toward madam X)when you say the dictionary "cannot do true justice to semantics,..." are you trying to say that the X girl, and maybe you, are better equipped to decide the meaning of a word than the dictionary? I cannot, and will not, accept that premise.
If adults are falling prey to the language used by teenagers, then the world is in more trouble than I thought. you are talking about a generation of "people?" that grew up "Hooked On Phonics", among other things. They spell words like doughnut, as donut, omelette as omelet, night as nite, and light as lite. IMO opinion that is the laziest form of language that I have had the misfortune to witness. Some one, preferably one or more of the parents, should have taken a more active role in their education. But, of course, modern day parents are just too busy to spend time on their children's education. They figure that the total responsibility lies with the school system. ~H~ |
