Winspear announces Mr. A.M. (Sandy) Laird Appointed to the Board of Directors

VANCOUVER, May 25 /CNW/ - Winspear Diamonds Inc. (WSP-TSE, CDNX) is
pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. A.M. (Sandy) Laird to the Board of
Directors.
Mr. Sandy Laird was employed from November 1960 to February 1999 by
Placer Dome Inc and associated and predecessor companies. During this 38-year
period, Mr. Laird was involved in the construction, operation and expansion of
most of Placer's mines in Canada, the United States, Australia, Chile, Papua
New Guinea and Australia as well as several acquisitions and dispositions. He
has served on several internal Boards and, for two years was Chairman of
Gibraltar Mines, a public company.
His senior positions with Placer Dome Inc. included Manager, Design and
Construction and Senior Vice-President, Project Development. In 1995, he was
appointed Senior Vice President, assisting Placer Dome's President in
developing the overall effectiveness of the Placer Dome Group. Ultimately, his
final two years were spent as Executive Vice-President with responsibility for
Placer Dome's global operating and project development subsidiaries.
Mr. Laird has served as President of the Canadian Institute of Mining,
Metallurgy and Petroleum and as a Director of Mining Associations in both BC
and Nevada. He is a member of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and
Exploration and is a registered Mining Engineer with the Association of
Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia.
