Just taking a quick look at their product description leaves me a little perplexed as they say their product
is the "only system to combine packet, cell, and TDM switching into a fully integrated bandwidth-optimized solution with unified operations and management - eliminating the bandwidth and services gap in metropolitan area networks." That in itself does not distinguish their offering over other companies in my mind, but after reading the second article you posted, I can see how attractive the product can be to customers not wanting to waste resources. I just find it hard to believe Chromatis is the only firm with this offering...

chromatis.com

What is more significant is Lucent buying them (if the rumor is true) as one would think Lucent with its Bell Labs would not have to go outside to get this technology. Then again, maybe the technology was developed there but walked out to a startup (as there seems to be so many engineers leaving these large companies for startups..) that Lucent will buy back... stranger things have happened...

PS Sycamore on their last CC did mention they might use some of their huge cash load to either make an acquisition or do some vendor financing, so I am not surprised to see Sycamore mentioned in the article....

PSS Thanks for posting those articles.
