05/26 03:26 Nestle unit in talks to buy Summit Autonomous - WSJ

NEW YORK, May 26 (Reuters) - A unit of Nestle SA <NESZn.S> is in negotiations to buy laser eye-surgery pioneer Summit Autonomous Inc. <BEAM.O>, according to a person familiar with the matter, the Wall Street Journal said.

The Nestle unit, Alcon Laboratories Inc., is negotiating to pay cash for Summit, the article said. Though the value of the deal under discussion could not be learned, one person close to the talks said Alcon is offering a premium over Summit's current stock-market valuation, currently about $600 million, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Negotiations were continuing last night, though one person close to the talks said there was no guarantee an agreement would be reached, the paper said.

Allen Baker, chief operating officer of Alcon, Fort Worth, Texas, declined to comment, while a Summit spokeswoman couldn't be reached for comment, according to the Wall Street Journal.
