These models are unable to take into account the multitude of factors affecting this election. Hell, we don't need a statistical model to tell us that a President or closely identified successor will win the presidency if the economy is good and there is no major international conflict all other things being equal. The very fact that a challenger is doing this well so consistently means that things are not normal, however.....Now, if they could statistically correlate "peace and prosperity" with massive, ongoing scandal; the challenger having unusually high name recognition and positives; the successor being unusually off- putting, and so forth, well, then they might be on to something.......
