If you recall your geometry, "a point is that which has no part", that is, is has not length, width, or breadth, but is located here or there. A spiritual substance is conceived of similarly. Descartes, among others, speculated that the soul was conjoined with the body through the pineal gland. It is likelier to be in some portion of the brain. The soul would be able to observe a wide array, comprehending what is presented it by the brain in one act of awareness that continues over time. The difficulty, of course, is in imagining such a thing, when we draw images from the senses. Nevertheless, it is not much harder than imagining a tesseract, or the universe before space-time, or other odd notions from math and physics....... |
