Actually, the Gambler's Paradox refers to the House being able to extract more ClownBux (yes, gamblers are clowns for sure) when the house odds are closer to even, opposed to when the odds are awful. In an independant trial game (such as roulette, craps, flipping a coin) the odds are the same no matter how many came before. In a dependant trial game (i.e., blackjack) where the deck composition can change during the course of the game, this is not necessarily the case (and that is the rationale for card counting).

At least the guy wasn't playing a progression, where he increased his bet size with each loss (kinda like answering a margin call with cash, home equity loans, etc). Otherwise he'd have gone broke sooner.
