Re noise on the main thread
I almost never post, and this is my first on this thread, but I really had to throw in my 2 cents here. I feel like I, a very new investor who hasn't RTFM, have more faith in the driving concept behind the main thread than many longtime posters currently are expressing. These are the same people who have done all of the research, all of the analysis, and all of the wonderful indepth probing and dissecting that make the thread as sophisticated and credible a resource as it is.
Even as new as I am to long term market watching, I feel pretty comfortable that the reactions and overreactions of the last short period are a phenomenon to be watched and learned from, but that they don't exactly spell doom and destruction for life as we know it.
I ask myself, are these stocks (Q, JDSU, NTAP, SEBL, CTXS and yes, even GMST)substantially different companies than they were 2 and 1/2 months ago? If I had just found out about them yesterday, would I still want to own them? Can I wait 6 months, 8 months, 12 months or whatever to see how this all shakes out? Um, let's see, uh...yes?
And why do I feel so comfortable? Because I am completely comfortable with my assessment of the intelligence and the abilities of what I consider to be the core posters on the main thread and my opinion is that the system that they use and the conclusions that they reach pursuant to that system are as good a system for investing as I am likely to come across, given that my every waking hour is not going to be devoted to this pursuit.
I wonder why they don't feel as comfortable as I do?
