Unfortunately, you missed the entire point of my post to yogi, who had asserted that people lived in the projects because of bad choices and that many get out. ANd I responded that:

1) Generation after generation of children are born in the projects through no fault of their own and 2) studies show that very few get out.

What this indicates to me is that our doors of opportunity aren't opening to these people for some reason. Our system is failing them.

So while it is all well and good to wax noble and superior about what we can offer Elian that Cuba can't, we are, at the same time, losing a large group of our own. And I think it is wrong to blame the individual when the failure is so all-encompassing and increasing in a certain strata of our society.
