My hatred of beliefs would be directed at myself if I believed anything enough to hurt someone else over it. But I don't, so I don't need to direct that hatred to myself over that. I can hate myself occasionally for other things- but excessive belief isn't one of those things.

It's a matter of degree. Everyone has operational day to day beliefs. I even have MORAL beliefs- but I hold them as I would a theorem- if my morality appears to have a flaw, if it looks to be in error, I will change it. Committed believers (the faithful who have suspended their rationality and allowed a "greater" power to guide them- whatever that greater power is- EST, God, Koresh, Jim Jones whatever) are not looking for flaws in their beliefs- that are looking for the flaws in people who do not hold their beliefs.
