From 614M

Dow Jones Newswires

RESTON, Va. -- Nextel Communications Inc. (NXTL) shareholders
approved increasing the company's authorized common shares to about 2.2
billion from about 614 million.

In a press release Friday, Nextel said the vote allows it to proceed with a
2-for-1 stock split, which was approved by the board in February.

The new shares will be distributed June 6, to shareholders of record as of
May 26.

Nextel, a wireless communications company, said shareholders also approved
an amended incentive equity plan, which increases the number of Class A
common shares available under the plan to 90 million from 45 million shares.

Shareholders also appointed Deloitte & Touche LLP as Nextel's independent
auditors for fiscal year 2000.
