Good try Maurice. Perhaps it's the old tragedy of the commons: those that didn't dehypothecate(!) stood to gain as much as those that didn't, thus only those communally motivated took part. Markets are not known for their communal spirit, although that is not so of SI.

Thankyou for ascribing the credit for "streams" to me as well as a share of the potential guilt of your dastardly scheme. Alas, there is now no guilt to share. How about those poor unfortunates who bought "knowing" the stock was going to rise? Ah well, guilt was never my strong suit. I feel bad about that.
As to you and I being one and the same. I don't know. I have a great deal of trouble dealing with our -I mean my - multiple personalities as it is. We don't think I could handle yours too. We've tried voting on this, but the number of voters changes at each recount.
What will come of this stream now? It started as a simple babbling brook (That's you, Maurice), grew into a mighty and turbulent torrent, the force of the WSJ was added to it. It came to the attention of the State of California - a body known to do very strange things with rivers - and SI. It seemed for a time that the stream might be damned or diverted, but no, it crashed on regardless. Finally now, its energy spent, it is discharged.
