Isn't that terrible? Goodness no!! It's not terrible at all! X and I were talking about this just last week-- or was it two weeks ago.... I was bemoaning the loss of my brain, and she said, don't be silly- we just know so much more than we did when we were young, it's harder to access words quickly. Which made sense. At least I wanted it to. A larger database. I am the master of circumlocutions. Creative word replacement. I was in the kitchen chopping fruit to make a smoothie just this morning and handed a cup of strawberries to Ammo, "Here put these in the - " and it's not there- the word is gone- there's just this kind of dead air spot where it's supposed to be. But I never miss a beat. .."sharpchopper with the buttons". "You mean the blender?" "That's just such a boring way of saying it," I say. Maybe the secret of being a good writer is not knowing the bon mot but being able to describe it when you can't remember it.
