Re: fieldstone patio. I don't know how, but I can tell you that the libraries have some good books on stoneworking, at least ours do. Lots of what the French chefs call trucs, tricks of the trade that it would take you a lifetime to figure out on your own, if you ever did, and you probably wouldn't. A lot of the ones our libraries carry are written by guys in Virginia and North Carolina, not sure if it's just giving the local guys a chance, or whether it's just that a lot of stone work is done here, I think the latter.
