Justa, Part II

There is mucho talk about the Fed. raising rates 50 basis points in June and retaining the bias. The history of 1994 shows that every time they moved 50 basis points, they did nothing at the following meeting. Why? Because they probably wanted to see how much damage they caused by doing a 50 before doing it again.

The most recent move of 50 basis points will have no visible effects until sometime mid-year 2001. I believe what you really mean to say is that the Federal Reserve wants to see what their previous rate increases have done first and not be too quick to raise rates too quickly because another 1/2 point increase may cause the economy to tumble into a recession in the next year or so.

I think the most we get if anything is 25 basis points.

Agreed.
