If that was the only alternative, i would have to go with you and consider gun control as the lesser of two evils. OTOH, I had read that in the middle ages when they tried hanging pickpockets, the crowds at hangings were routinely deprived of their purses by the pickpockets who took advantage of their preoccupation with the execution, so there again the results were not as expected.

ps-I have to wonder, in view of you earlier reference to Caligula if the idea came after watching the movie Gladiator.
