So bring the content onto ATHM's network and bypass the bottlenecks.

What? This is not possible since the content belongs to others and ATHM can't own the world. Further, ATHM's network can't transcend the cloud. It is possible in the future, but by then everyone will have the same capability.

I can't believe Yahoo has facilitated a BB network on the scale of ATHM's.

They haven't. That isn't the issue. ATHM network waits. It is waiting for old servers to figure out who is on first. Yahoo has the latest in servers and they have superior methods of pipelining to the cloud that others don't.

The ATHM network is essentially local and picks up its loads and delivers them locally. You are saying the national backbone of ATHM should be all the backbones. There are many out there who won't let that happen including government.

The DOJ decree marks the end of competition (or aggregation) at the NDSP level, which could lead to greater cooperation among the MSOs.

I see it in the exact opposite way. The decree prevents Att from turning into an octopus which is in Att's interest, and I'm sure that Att doesn't mind. This was already the case in the 30% rule, so Att is indifferent. Since BB:Internet won't be under one provider, the new providers will unavoidably compete. They'll compete both for "content" and subs. Users will have choice of ISP and ISPs will have choice of NDSPs. When there is choice there is competition. The implication here also is that MSOs may disappear altogether as protected entities in a given region. There is no reason why there should be MSO territoriality. That fact sure hasn't helped MSO bottom line over the last 20 years.
