Keep in mind that I heard a number of comments from CEOs at a CEO conference in the US regarding the competitive pressures. This was on CNBC and the CEO's of these large conglomerates all agree that they are not able to raise prices on goods. They did say that labour mkts are tight but as long as they continue to see savings from technology innovations in their production processes they are OK.
This is another key factor about this New Economy, companys do not realize gains from technology immediately. There is a huge learning curve and employees who need to be trained over the years. I feel in the next couple of years we start seeing corp. cash in on the efficiencies through technology innovations.
For example, look at the tobacoo industry (there is a plant in my city). These guys keep changing the machines every 2 - 3 years because of the speed at which they can produce and the lesser number of machine operators required. They have not hired machine operators in years and are just handing out early retirements left and right.

To top it off, you here this other comment about Microsoft and Anti-Trust baboons. A chief trader commented that the word on the street is that everybody is watching this case. This will set precedence for future anti-trust cases which will be bad for the markets. Gees give me a break! How many Oligopolies are out there in a each industry.
I don't believe in this theory anyway back to the books.
