I saw this line in the Barron's mailbag:

"Perhaps Robert Shiller wrote his book to make up for the money he lost being out of the market since 1996?"

This is indicative of the inflationary times we live in. A normal money market fund has returned over 20% since 1996, and that is considered "losing money". Given the rise in home and food prices in that time, perhaps it is.
