I don't mean to over-simplify or trivialize the matter, but when he starts talking about 'economic indicators showing an overheated market' and proposes Fed rate hikes, you have a pretty good idea of what's going to happen to the market for a little while. At least, this is the pattern I've observed even dating back to Volcker...with these guys, you have the *opportunity* to react with some predictability. If you don't exercise that, and you lose money, it doesn't make *them* dangerous.

This is entirely different from a scenario where novice or semi-pro investors believe some faked 'info' from a short and sell their holdings, later finding out they were duped.
