Hi there, big-time lurker (previously) here. So I've been following this rumor about 1.5 Ghz with more than the usual interest this weekend.

Any chance that AMD could have gone to a .15 copper process at Dresden? You know, suppose that after they test-qualified the copper process on the K6, and were bringing up the .18 process on the Tbird, they ran a little side-project just to see if they could jump to .15 on one line... Suppose again that it went much better than expected, and just 'worked' with decent yields? Might they then simply say, what the hell, produce aluminum .18 Tbirds from Austin, and .15 coppers from Dresden? I don't know how difficult a .18 to .15 transition would be on the equipment they have in Dresden... perhaps this is simply unreasonable.
Could anyone else comment?

Would .15 explain the 200 die / wafer number claimed in the rumor as well as the 1.5 GHz?

I'd heard before (here?) that the FAB toolset they have in Dresden *is* .15 capable... true?

Announcement in Dresden on the 5th? Is this date confirmed? It'd be nice, being my birthday and all...

Would anyone at AMD IR deny this rumor if asked? Or is it their policy not to comment, ever? Would be interesting to see if an inquiry received a "no comment" vs. something closer to an outright denial.

thanks,

Doug
