I would think "face" is important to the Chinese.

Why is it that "face" is only important to Asians? Face is very important to QCOM as well. They will get a face-saving Chinese deal, just as they got a face-saving deal with DDI even after DDI totally dissed them in public. The question to ask about a cdmaOne deal in China is: Is this a 10-million-subscriber buildout commencing THIS YEAR? Anything less means QCOM is being tossed sloppy seconds. Does anybody remember all the cheerleading about how this great buildout was going to lead to advance orders for QCOM ASICs, etc. etc.?

BTW, China will not be "saving face" to sign a deal. They dissed QCOM, got away with it (as did the Japanese), and now may sign a smaller deal than before so that QCOM can save face in China (as they did in Japan). What will not be published is the accommodative terms QCOM has to accept.

I am starting to feel people have the QCOM-cum-Gorilla thing bassackwards. Seems QCOM is a Chimp.
