Steve, I hope I am reading this wrong, but As I read it, the DEA RFP is looking for AFIS systems and LATENT fingerprint scanners, not live scanners. NEC has their own latent fingerprint scanner. In fact they claim that it is widely recognized as the best. The DEA is looking to "increase the ability to solve cases through the identification of fingerprints developed on evidence processed in the laboratory, and evidence recovered and processed at crime scenes."

This probably implies that they will eventually need live scanners to record the fingerprints of suspects not already in the computer.
